GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, and their warranty program is one of the most tiered and flexible in the industry. From a solid baseline warranty that requires no registration to the industry-leading Golden Pledge, which includes up to 25 years of workmanship coverage backed by GAF, there’s a level of protection for every homeowner.

Five Levels of Protection

GAF offers five warranty tiers for their Timberline shingles. The first two require no certified contractor and no registration. The three enhanced warranties (System Plus, Silver Pledge, and Golden Pledge) require a GAF-certified contractor and must be registered. Your contractor handles that.

Warranty Highlights

Smart Choice Protection Period	The window during which coverage is applied in full with no prorating. Spans 10 years under base warranties and extends to 50 years under System Plus, Silver Pledge, and Golden Pledge.
WindProven (No Wind Speed Cap)	15-year wind coverage with no maximum wind speed limit. Requires LayerLock technology shingles and at least four qualifying GAF accessories.
StainGuard Algae Resistance	10 years (StainGuard), 25 years (StainGuard Plus), or 30 years (StainGuard Plus PRO), depending on the shingle.
Wind Coverage	15 years standard, up to 130 mph with special installation. LayerLock shingles with qualifying accessories qualify for WindProven with no speed cap.
Golden Pledge Workmanship	Up to 25 years of workmanship coverage (30 years for Timberline UHDZ shingles), available only through Master Elite contractors like Ranch Roofing.
Transferable Coverage	Warranties transfer to a new homeowner during the Smart Choice Protection Period. The new owner emails ccp@gaf.com with their name, address, and purchase date.

What’s Not Covered

Damage from anything other than a manufacturing defect (or installation error under Silver/Golden Pledge)
Acts of God, including hail, wind exceeding covered limits, ice dams, and flooding
Inadequate attic ventilation (discuss ventilation with your contractor before installation)
Normal wear and tear after the Smart Choice Protection Period ends
Non-GAF products installed as part of the roofing system
Tear-off and disposal under Tiers 1 and 2 (covered under System Plus and above)
Workmanship errors under Tiers 1 through 3 (covered only under Silver and Golden Pledge)
Incidental or consequential damages of any kind
